What is SHR?
Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) is a Linux-based technology often used in Synology NAS devices.
With SHR, it is possible to use disks of different sizes in one RAID thereby using disk space more efficiently.
Additionally, SHR allows to expand the storage by replacing existing array member disks with larger ones.
SHR and data recovery
If the disks were never replaced with disks of different size, the SHR is the same as traditional RAID5 (or RAID6 if you have SHR2),
and does not affect recovery in any way.
If you ever have replaced disks with larger ones in your Synology NAS, that means SHR is used, the on-disk layout became rather complicated.
Home NAS Recovery does not support such configurations.
In this case, the only way to recover data is to contact with a data recovery service.
